MySpace was broken all weekend. This is not the first time that they have had problems, but the mainstream media is finally catching on. In the few months I've been using the site, there have been numerous outages and performance problems so bad that entire features are completely un-usable. I am by no means the only blogger to comment on this mess, but what occurs to me is that the event this weekend could be MySpace's version of what happened to eBay in June, 1999, when the site was down cold for 19 hours. MySpace needs to make drastic organizational changes, like eBay did, to fix their problems.
My advice is to do the same thing that eBay did in its time of need -- hire Maynard Webb. He'll be available soon, and he has a proven track record of putting organization in place to fix huge internet company scalability problems.
MySpace is no longer just for teenagers. Big companies are relying on it for their viral marketing efforts, and its those same companies that MySpace has to convert into advertisers in order to turn their huge traffic into revenue.
So, MySpace... Isn't it time for some adult supervision? Maynard Webb for MySpace CEO!
If nothing else, it would be worth seeing him in the sequel to the MySpace Movie.
