Introducing Project San Dimas

Update 4/18/07 - The San Dimas beta program is now open. Sign up today -- we'll start sending out invitations soon.

While I haven't been blogging very much recently, I have been very busy. And now I can talk about my pet project: "San Dimas" -- an eBay Desktop prototype. We showed the prototype at the Adobe MAX show last week, and the response from the show attendees was fantastic. Read more about the show on the eBay developer blog.

I will be posting more here soon. For now I will say this:

  • This is just a prototype... for now
  • Adobe is building an eBay code library, which was used by San Dimas, which will be up on their labs site in a few weeks
  • The prototype shows what is possible using eBay Web Services -- any developer could build an eBay experience like this one
  • It is built on the Adobe Apollo platform
  • Effective UI, a fantastic design/development firm, worked with me to build it

No problem Alan. It is really amazing what you have done with Apollo. It really goes to show what things are to come soon. But I think you guys have already raised that bar...and the public release for Apollo is not even out yet!

I think San Dimas should be released, but it could just be me thinking that since I'm hooked on eBay. Either way, great work!

Alan,

This is an excellent idea to provide Desktop tools for ebay.

We are building a very compact (4mb) J2EE based desktop platform that will enable developers write applications in Java/AJAX/ Flash. The key benefit is the applications will be browser based and can seamlessly integrate desktop resources with web resources.

Hi Alan,

I am Addies, an eBay Idiot.

I feel this software has a great potential to improve.

I am trying hard to get success with eBay and I feel this software can help do a better job.

Hi Alan,

I definately think this is a great idea. eBay needs a desktop tool, would make life a whole lot easier.

Charles.
